Comedy:
Church and Community Outreach
Comedy has always been in my blood. The diabetes is new! Before I got saved, I used to do "Stand - Up Comedy" in clubs and at events. Of course, my materials was different back then. Let's just say the past material is what I like to classify as Ronnie B.C. (Ronnie Before Christ!). For years after being saved, I stopped performing stand-up. I guess I just didn't see how it "fit into" my passion for Jesus. Yet now, I see God opening more and more doors to use Stand - Up Comedy as a springboard into sharing the gospel with the lost and to encourage the saved to find their true worth in Jesus Christ!
THIS CAN BE A GREAT TIME OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND CHALLENGE FOR YOUR CHURCH OR GROUP!
The goal here is simply to go from craziness to the Cross! Using my own insecurities as background material, I show how the love of God can over shadow any hang-ups and hurts that keep us from being who God wants us to be!Finding my worth in Jesus helped me to overcome:
Years of pain associated with obesity:
“I was at the mall the other day and decided to try out some ‘Talking Scales.’ Their was a guy in front of me. He stepped on the scales and they said, “One Hundred and Sixty Pounds.” I stepped on them and they said, “One Person At A Time Please…”
A life time of not fitting in:
“I know that I am a messed up guy. It’s only natural since I come from a messed up family. My Grandma was hilarious. She wore knee high hose. The problem is that she always wore panty hose. She only pulled them up to her knees! She walked around with a little basket hanging around her knees, but it actually was okay. It was great for holding her Rooster Snuff and T.V. Guide…”
“I have never been the brightest bulb in the chandelier. My ignorance almost got my whole math class killed when I was in the fifth Grade. Our teacher was trying to teach us the metric system. To help us learn she had changed every thing in the class over to the metric system. Our rulers were metric. We had scales that were in metric. She had even changed our thermometer on the wall to metric. One morning it was kind of cold in the classroom and she asked me, ‘Ronnie can you turn the heat on for us?’ I didn’t understand the metric system at all. I set the temperature to 70 degrees. I didn’t know it, but that’s like 2000 degrees in metric! Kids were running and screaming! Their clothes were catching on fire. One was yelling, “My eyes! They are melting…”
“We’re all messed up. We all do things that are messed up. We fail things we try. We sin when we try to do good. We are not as perfect as we wished we were. We don’t look as ‘great’ as we wish we did. If we focus on those things, we can find ourselves living defeated, discouraged, depressed lives. Yet, the Bible tells us that even through our imperfections, there is a God that loves us perfectly. In fact, He has already proven it. “For God so loved the world, yes, even you, even me, that He sent His Son to make sure that He would spend eternity with you. You are so special to God that He would rather die than to live without you…”
THIS CAN BE USED AS A GREAT OUTREACH INTO YOUR COMMUNITY
Are you struggling to get people in your community to listen to the Gospel? Do you wish that you could just get them together in one room so you could share Jesus? Have we got an idea for you!!! This is one of the most unique opportunities that you will ever have to reach your community for Christ!
Using Humor to draw them in, Ronnie will weave life stories, silly anecdotes, and heart wrenching Biblical Truth to carry your audience from craziness to the cross!
This Is How It Works:
This can be done by one church setting a time on their calendar for a laid back night of craziness (which will always end up with us going to the foot of the cross) and have their congregation invite lost family, friends and neighbors.
Or it can be done as more of a “community outreach” by a number of churches working together:
-
Prayerfully join with other churches to rent or borrow a meeting place in the community.
-
Advertise it as a night of “Stand-Up Comedy.” This will help to attract the “un-churched.”
-
Have the members of each church commit to invite members of the community and bring their lost friends and family to this laid back night of “Comedy.”
-
Once the show begins, Ronnie will use humor, silliness, and craziness to lighten their minds (and let down their guards).
-
Allow God to loosen their hearts as the subject matter slowly shifts from Comedy to the Cross.
-
Offer those that may not other wise hear of Jesus, an opportunity to have a personal relationship with the only one that can truly give them joy, forgiveness, and hope in their lives!
“Laughing For Jesus?” Actually not laughing FOR Jesus. We would rather think of it as Laughing TO Jesus! Nothing calms fear or soothes despair like a good laugh. The Bible even says in Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart does good, like medicine.”
Our world is filled with people that are crushed by all this life has to offer. They are looking for relief. We know the answer is Jesus, but they don’t. In fact, they really don’t care to hear that as an answer. However, they do want to forget about their troubles. They use many things to do that, including a night out just to take their minds off of life.
We believe God has given us a unique ministry to reach those people: Offer them a night of laughter, craziness, and fun…AND then give them Hope!
This is billed as a night of “Stand-Up Comedy”, and it will be, but there is one goal. To use humor as a springboard to Jesus! Oh, we will talk about everything from kids to ketchup, but we will always end with Christ!
We Can’t Guarantee That Ronnie Will Behave BUT We Can Guarantee That He Will Be: CLEAN, CARING, CHALLENGING, CHRIST-CENTERED, and CROSS FOCUSED!
PLEASE CONTACT US IF WE CAN MINISTER TO AND FOR YOU!
