Happy Heat From Our Family To Yours!
Wow, It’s been a scortcher hasn’t it? I was given a compliment one time from a lady who said, “you sure don’t sweat much for a fat guy.“ That IS a compliment isn’t it? It’s hard not to sweat when the temperatures are hitting a hundred! Honestly, it makes me even happier that I am not going to hell! I can barely stand 95 degrees, I know I would be miserable with the whole fire that is never quenched and the wailing and gnashing of teeth! It makes me want to stop one more time and praise my Savior for all that He has done!
This summer is not only bringing on the heat, it is also beginning to unfold CROSS EYED MINISTRIES. We are excited about all that the Lord is doing as we move forward in His grace and mercy. We are beginning to really focus on making forward progress into the ministry that God has for us.
I can’t help but think how “crazy” this all seems the closer that we get to seeing it all unfold. For the past six years things have been sooo stable! I have been the Pastor of one of the greatest Churches around, Shiloh Baptist of Milton, NC.
This has been challenging, rewarding, amazing and even surprisingly stable. Generally I have known where I was going to be most of the time and I knew what I was going to be doing. Barring a major change or emergency, I had a good idea what tomorrow and next week would be like. The truth is that I actually like the stability!
AND NOW, it seems as though God is leading us into “unstable” waters. Well, unstable for me, not Him. He has it all under control! As I mentioned in our last newsletter, we are in the process of preparing for our new ministry. It’s a more itinerate ministry of preaching Revivals, speaking at Conferences and even stepping back into the arena of “Stand -Up Comedy” to reach people for Jesus.
We are excited about what this change means and where it will take us for the Lord. Of course, as I have admitted, there is some nervousness about all this change. For so many reasons, this move just doesn’t seem to make sense. However, I have learned that going from stability to instability is okay when God’s involved. It reminds of a famous movie scenario.
“Doing What Doesn’t Make Sense”
In the movie The Poseidon Adventure, the ocean liner S.S. Poseidon is on the open sea when it hits a huge storm. Before long the storm over takes the cruise ship. In the ritzy ballroom of the ship, men and women, dressed in their elegant evening wear, are forced into a panic as the waves crash in on them sending them screaming and running for their lives. As the lights go out and smoke pours throughout the ship, the confused and shocked passengers struggle to find their bearings. Unbeknownst to them the cruise liner flips over in the ocean.
Because of the air trapped inside the ocean liner, it floats upside down. But in the confusion, the passengers can't figure out what's going on. As they scramble to get out, they do what seems to make sense, they climb the steps to the top deck. The problem is that the top deck is now submerged under water. In trying to get to the top of the ship, they actually go deeper and deep because “the top” is now under water. Sadly, they drown.
The only survivors are the few who do what doesn't make sense. They do the opposite of what everyone else is doing. Instead of taking the stairs, which seems to make sense, they descend into the dark belly of the ship until they reach the hull. With the ship capsized, the bottom of the ship actually becomes a refuge due to the air trapped inside. They stay there banging on the ship until they are heard by rescuers and are brought to safety.
Isn’t it amazing that their refuge came from doing what DID NOT make sense. They chose not to follow what the others did nor did they even do what seemed right to them. I have grown to learn that often times, that is exactly what God calls us to as His servants. Sometimes He calls us to step out from what seems right and stable to do what others would say is unsafe.
I believe that God is leading us into a new area of life so that we may grow to know Him, trust Him and love Him more, so will you join us in this journey as we live that life of faith. Our lives are going to have to be lived out in prayer just as the Psalmist prayed, “Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day (Psalm 25:4-5).” Will you please pray for us along those same lines?
Also pray as we make the little decisions that need to be made as we make this commitment to follow Him. We are sure of the destination: going from Pastor to Evangelist, Conference Speaker, and Christian Comedian. However, there are MANY decisions that need to be made along the way. So, please pray for us as we make these important decisions of choosing the right roads. The most important decision has been made when we said, “Yes” to God concerning CROSS EYED MINISTRIES. Now we just need to take the right roads to get there!
Pray for my family. Satan is really attacking hard since we said, “Yes” to God. If Satan can rattle your family. He can undermine all you do. There is no greater way to defuse what God is doing than to have Satan destroy your family! Pray that God strengthens us, draws us closer to Him, and closer to each other. Pray for our finances as we live this life of faith. Pray for opportunities of ministry!
Thank you guys so much for being there for us. I may send out another short update in a few weeks to let you know how everything is unfolding. Thanks again for all you do and for what you mean to us. Always remember, take care and trust God. He’s got it all worked out!
As You Pray For Us, We Will Be Praying That God Pours Himself Out On You So Much That Only He Could Get Credit For It!
In Christ,
